New Resolutions for the New Year

writing Hey, it's a brand new stinking year.  Better get on those resolutions.  I've already started a couple and may add more as the day grows older.  I'm definitely resolving to read the Bible every day and, to make sure that resolution a reality, I'm also resolving to write a daily devotional and post it on my website: derekelkins.com every single day.

Next, like the majority of Americans I suffer from a debilitating disease I call being fat and lazy.  So, I resolve to exercise with my wife starting today.  God help me.  I really don't want to do it, mainly because I'm lazy, but hey, you sometimes gotta do what you don't want to do.

Finally, I'm going to resolve to finish my current book, An Introduction to Shadows, in January, finish at least one more book this year as well as a short story a month for Bard and Book.  Why?  Cause I said so, that's why?

See, the beauty part of New Year's Resolutions are that they remind us that we can have a brand new start any day.  Not just New Year's.  We can have a brand new start any and every day.  No matter what kind of bad we've been up to, no matter what mistakes we've made or what disaster's we've managed to create, a new start guarantees that we can just wipe the slate clean and start accomplishing things as of today.

Y'know, as a kid, I had a problem thinking that when I got into trouble it was the end of the world.  Then I found the power of forgiveness and learned the meaning of priorities.  Taking the punishment for my mistakes was just part of life.  Trying to run away from my troubles, in alcohol or lying was just prolonging the inevitable.  Taking the punishment really just gets the situation over as soon as possible so I can move on with my life.  Good things indeed.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all my fellow readers and to my fellow Bards.  May this be a banner year for this website, for you, your families and the individual mission that God has entrusted to you.
